Alcenia’s Restaurant Renovation

For 23 Years, Alcenia’s Southern Style Cuisine has been a bright and flavorful icon in Downtown Memphis’ Pinch District. Chef B.J. Chester Tamayo founded Alcenia’s as a place of healing after the untimely death of her son and named it in honor of her loving mother Alcenia Chester Clark. The project included the building acquisition and renovation of the beloved community restaurant. Exterior improvements include exterior building repair, tuck-point masonry, exterior painting, window and storefront repair, new awnings, a new wood deck with ADA-compliant ramps, exterior lighting, and mural/art components. Interior renovations included a revamped interior design, two new ADA-compliant toilets, HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing upgrades, and new finishes throughout.

"Soul Food is a bridge that brings different cultures from all over the world. My food has the main roux ingredient which is love. You can taste it in my food!"

– B.J. Chester-Tamayo
